Rachel Maddow reports on concerns about the freedom to testify and legal protections of the whistleblower in the Trump Ukraine scandal, as well as their physical safety after Donald Trump made thinly veiled threats about treating the whistleblower's sources like spies were treated "in the old days." Whistleblower's Safety A Concern As Trump Makes Veiled Threats | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC
You have the very finest president on your hands… the best words, the very best people… a very very fine man ✌👶🙄
We hired a reality TV star, now we are getting what we paid for, a reality TV show! 🤔
This season finale is going to be explosive!
@Yo-yos Tenbucks Yeah… keep name calling… that’s helping your argument
Not “reality TV”, ILLUSION TV.
MAGA!
Von Dutch he became a reality tv star as soon as he showed up on tv duh
If he goes down he’ll try to take as many people with him as he can…
If he goes down he’ll try to take as many people with him as he can
Did Eric (Marc Rich) Holder, Obama’s wing man as he called him self, ever go down. No & neither will Barr.
Interesting how he invokes the death penalty for spying which is a treason charge… when it’s likely that charges of treasons will
Be brought against Trump, if everyone listens to his voice selling middle America agricultural business and having everyone stay at his managed properties.
Man, I think I’ve heard this before.
Clinton
McCabe
Q sent me
@Emperor Don-Nee Chump happy time to be a proud American. A American nation first . Q sent me.
That’s good, the more the better we All are.
you don’t threaten someone if you aren’t afraid yourself. he has just incriminated himself publicly-this is basically a confession.
Maybe it’s time to reassess Snowden’s decision not to take the whistleblower route but to make the information available to the media. He did not want his head chopped off.
At least Snowdewn did it 100X more dilligently than Manning…
MVVpro We should just place D the C on permanent speaker phone live to the nation. Twitter doesn’t have that unique vocal quality Donald has.
YES…..YES…. AND YES !! Chelsea Manning too !
If the DOG or AG in anyway start asking questions or start investigating the whistleblower the Congress should immediately impeach Barr. No ifs or buts. And then indicted..
Matthew Lewis…They ought impeach Barr now…they should’ve dealt with him at the get go… All are in the midst of being rounded up…
They all ought be evicted out the WH
@Behindthen0thing ~ No wonder you’re a Trump worshipper, you think just like him. And buddy, that ain’t a good thing.
@Alex Gowers actually this is another Russian hoax 2.0 and you’ve got nothing. Can’t you see you’re being played by the media?
@Behindthen0thing One crime does not excuse another. And if Obama did so many bad things, why did the Republicans not investigate, and if they found grounds, impeach? If you are telling me because the Republicans are just ‘nicer’, than I’d say that is a seriously bad niceness, because their job is to keep checks and balances. It isn’t about sitting on your behind and have a great time, but to keep track on what is going on in regards of corruption and abuse of power. This of course goes for any representative of the people, they are voted into place to work on policies and to stand against corruption. All sides have bad apples, all sides need to follow up without thinking of party first. Whoever fails to do that is corrupt as well, party or supporter. There are rights and there are wrongs, and we all know them, unless of course we are lacking any moral compass, which unfortunately does seem more and more the case for a lot of people.
Are you the mongoloid god of man boy love?
My favorite part about all of this is Trump is taking Barr down with him..
Frank North AND Pence!! It’s the narcissistic personality!
thegrandfinale2 Everybody does when you lie
J Russ And if you’re not on Trump side it’s coming for you boom
Claudia Nuss Schulte Go to church you need help
@C Holder lol I Love it when idiots think their anonymous tough guy threats on the internet make them actual tough guys. Face it C Holder you’re a punk who doesn’t even have the balls to make an account with your actual name on it while you threaten Americans. But please moron, pick up arms against your fellow countrymen. The faster we lock you idiots up the sooner the REAL Americans can move forward.
Isn’t making death threats an impeachable offense?
I am not sure if I am more curious or terrified of how this is going to cause Trump to escalate and attempt to distract with some new terrible.
True. It’s the new Wall (aka Iran).
Deadly Potato war with iran
It is entertaining. The distraction of all this s*** the media distorts. I love schitts interpretation of the transcript. Or the cutting and pasting of the transcript period. That’s not wasting time oh, that’s not a distraction. This is not going to help Trump at all… Again
@Delroy Brown by yelling really loud, waving around tiny hands and with the aid of his trusty sharpie!
Oh..
Wait..
None of that works on rational people..
He is screwed bro.
The DNI testimony was sad. I understand Maguire’s long term service to the country but good sense has to come into play at some point. You don’t ask the subject of an investigation what you should do with a report about the subject’s transgressions. What part of “compromised” and “conflict of interest” is so hard to understand that a Director of National Intelligence couldn’t see the problem in going to the White House with the report? Maguire kept citing protocol to explain his decisions. Maguire said he had no one else to consult with. How about this…you give it to Congress. Citing binding protocol of the executive branch makes no sense what-so-ever when a matter of this magnitude is at hand and the president himself is the subject of the complaint. Oversight matters and the whistleblower clearly demonstrated he/she understands that and the gravity of the situation. Maguire at times looked like a man trying not to anger his new boss and lose his job in his testimony.
The complaint and report are clear. Regardless of whether the whistleblower had first hand knowledge or not became irrelevant when the Trump appointed IG found the complaint credible and compelling after his own two week investigation, which removes any doubt about the validity of the complaint. The fact that the DoJ said there was nothing to investigate after seeing the complaint/report is damning and points to corruption. Also, Trump ADMITTED on camera he talked to the Ukrainian president about investigating the Bidens, dangling millions of dollars in military aid in the bargain and thereby attempting to influence the upcoming 2020 election. Trump also called out Guliani and AG Barr by name showing they’re complicit in this scheme. Trump then backed it up by releasing the transcript which was just bloody brilliant. That’s like a president that’s a serial killer, showing the FBI where the bodies are and how he killed the victims but then asking “what’s the big deal” when people are outraged.
Good analysis
Yup, it was a very poor judgement call by the DNI. You would think he would know better…
I agree. Maguire sounds like an admirable man but one who was still living with a military-based mind-set; Don’t question your orders – walk out into the machine gun fire with your stick held high proudly [and die along with thousands of others]. That he communicated with the FBI implies he was not completely convinced he had done the right thing by involving the WH, but he did it and he will lose his job because of that. He was treating Trump literally as a Deity.and that implies he values rules from above over common-sense.
Logain UBiv Tnomal Ablar Excellent analysis. When someone is accused of a crime, he or she is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Here we have just the opposite by his own admission (trump).
How can we give him the benefit of doubt when he’s insinuating possible retaliatory attacks aimed at those for coming forward?
Anything and everything from here on out the President says or tweets on the matter will be scrutinize, and for the life of me, I just can’t believe he doesn’t fully comprehend that.
Surely he is not stupid enough to invoke the death penalty when he is the one who likely committed treason? Wait, of course he is.
@Kevin NYC…First of all, why now, the timing said it all (2016).
We are the chief of meddling, stealing ressources and policing the rest of the world. Are we going to start telling on each other for now on. What happened to Ukraine if it is true, is their problem, not our. There is no gain to our part. We con other contries left to right, what is so special now. Kiddo there is no friendship between countries there is always strings attached. Let’s pretend he asked to investigate one of his kids from his “besties”, what would you think of him? And what would the rest of the world think of him. Pure greed. Self interest. You have a good night.
@Jody Alred I dont see any greed. The situation with the Biden’s is worth looking into. But you need more than this for a crime. This call would be laughed out of court. We should not be impeaching presidents because we dont like them. That is very dangerous, but here we are. He didnt ask to have Hunter locked up or killed or anything. There is so much we dont know yet. Hilary Clinton colluded with Ukraine to get Trump investigated. It was reported by Politico but no one cares because the media works for the Democrats. Good night.
@Kevin We impeached Clinton because we “loved/hate” him, or we followed the law? “laughed out of court”. 52% of Republicans are behind the impeachment. The only thing that is permanent is death. Just a bumpy road we will be ok (the result can only goes two ways.) We shall see.
@Jody Alred im talking about evidence, not polls. i really hope for the sake of the Republic that it takes more than a friendly phone call and a delay in aid to hang a duly elected American President by the neck.
@Jody Alred also you need 2/3 majority in the Senate to actually remove him. thats never going to happen. thats why they wont actually file for impeachment. this is all politics.
“DNI says ‘yes,’” but Rachel and everyone else knows William Barr will say “No.”
We all must protect this true patriot whistle blower!! He or she practised courage and love of their country to help each and every American! Thank you !!!
@Kate Hillenbrand Probably will go public at some point if he or she testifies, even in a closed hearing, before Congress.
T S New York Times pretty much outed the whistleblower
True patriot whistleblower? Doesn’t whistleblower have to be present for the information whether seen her Etc and not secondhand? How to look up the law I miss. But this whole whistleblower term, this so-called hero.. Kind of sounds like a childish thing. There’s an exercise that shows are proved she go from one topic to another and things get exaggerated or Miss represented from one person to the next. Thus, I believe there’s a reason that it was so blower is supposed to be the one directly involved? Is this wrong? Again, have to look up the law. But this sounds logical
@miragexl007 Trump’s released “transcript” is quite enough proof that his information was correct and not in the least exaggerated .PS Should you read the law as well as you write english the “logicality” of your conclusions should prove “interesting” .
Or we could just ask John.
President Pence????? God help us….we’re doomed either way….”Don’t Impeach, DEFEAT”..get rid of the whole rotten basket in 1 election
Well, I understand that it “was” a very prestigious job. But, quite frankly after the remarks yesterday, if I worked in the White House, I would grab my jacket and RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as the impeachment unfolds and news of further developments are made known, watch the clown prince just absolutely lose his mind. he already aint wrapped to tight
Trump is asking Nancy pelosi to make Adam Shelf step down, the nerve.
How can “a” President make remarks that mafia makes
The title should read, “Trump’s safety is a concern”. His use to Putin is growing thin.
Look, we’re talking about a president who has openly said he admires Kin Jong Un and walks around acting like a mob boss.
