How about setting up a donation account for her ?
Im a nurse myself and i think it is disjusting what has happened to her. Please sign the petition.
I worked in a Nursing Home once [for a very short time] and I noticed that the people who received the best care were the ones who’s family members visited often and kept on the staff [and most importantly the owner] about properly caring for their family member. My sister and I are going to do everything possible to keep out aging parents out of a nursing home. I hope Margaret gets justice.
handheldpoetry hope so
Is there any way to download this please so that it can be used as part of a ppt presentation on whistle blowing? Thanks in advance
Hi Marggy…..myself…depression and anxiety….told mgr. at new hospital 25 years a nurse and part doctor….I understand…the CNO will no longer let me practice…25 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
still with you..Im suspended myself having complained about abuses in three services who countered with malicious petty unfounded allegations.. the NMC FtP must change and stop promoting abuses and more importantly, where abuses are subsequently PROVEN ie the CQC ring you up to confirm that they found what you originally alleged then the NMC should take some, ANY interest and investigate THAT and re-focus away from the uncorroborated malicious drival referred for its instant distractive effect that is of such overwhelming interest to the NMC who falls over itself to spend the next six months creating a prosecutable case. The NMC needs to get its case assessment system into shape and reminded that serious patient abuse and drival are not the same thing. But I’m sure they know that.
while the situation on the ward required immediate attention, this still doesn’t mean that you have to film vulnerable adults at the end of their lives without any consent. How would you feel if you were watching your TV one day and saw that your mother’s last days where published on the national TV ? What about respect? What about dignity? What about consent? NMC gave this nurse another chance but the lessons should be learnt. Yes, abuse is happening, yes it is our duty of care to prevent it, report it and challenge it and failure to do so will have irreversible results. But by doing so we need to remain PROFESSIONAL. Going to TV to seek public attention was not professional. This could have been done in many different ways. If panorama wanted to film they should have sent someone presenting as visitor but no nurse should not get involved in breaching the patients confidentiality.
I disagree with you. I watched this Panorama programme when it was broadcast circa 9 years ago. What brought this hospital to their attention was public disclosures (that’s what it is called & this is why the Nurse was reinstated by the NMC) by staff who worked there, patients and relatives, who had all complained to the hospital and no action was taken, which is what always happens in these situations; thus they went to the BBC, a reputable publicly funded broadcaster (thus a public body) with their concerns. By law Panorama would have to seek the permission of those patients/relatives of those featured in the programme beforehand or obscure their identity. They investigated it and they were indeed right to be concerned as we all saw; you agree, but you can only do so because the evidence is there to be seen.
•You state that there are other ways in which this could have been handled. You are correct. However they do not work and never will. A hospital where the lack of care now needs actionable legal terms to discribe it (you called it “abuse” and l wouldn’t disagree with you) and staff and managers can see that is not going to change no matter what one tries to do internally. You need look no further then this platform (YouTube) to see that. Just type in “whistle blowers NHS” and hear their stories and many of them happened after this scandal. I know that there is a small percentage of NHS hospitals which are not like this. However off the top of my head l can name 6 high profile scandal since this one, despite more new laws and legislation to protect the patient/public and those making a public disclosure. The Department of Health (the parent devision of the NHS) is very aware of all of this but yet nothing changes regardless of the political party in government. Yet they always tell us that the NHS is “Safe in their hands” and another classic “Lessons have been learnt”. I say prove it! Show us! I have not seen any evidence that it!
• lf the NHS was a private enterprises it would have gone into administration decades ago, but not before all those accountable & responsible had been removed first…There is the problem no one is ever held accountable or responsible or both for any failings despite having many managers a CEO and a hospital board, plus all the laws to protect the patient/the public and those making a public disclosure.
• So if it takes a broadcaster, a publisher and that includes social media to make a public disclosure for things to change (note Winterbourne, note Ian Patterson) l am all for it and in my opinion it is professional because it is one’s public duty (legal requirement) to do so if you work in healthcare. There are too many documents for me to reference that state this fact.
That surely proves the health system knows what is going on behind closed doors and turn a blind eye on the problem shame on you all…
Reporting bad care should be applauded not condemned….what if its your parents are family members. If this is allowed then your at risk for more patient abuses….I’m a student in Medical Billing and Coding …This women need to be in upper position and not fired….
I hope she got her nursing pin number back.
