Trump and GOP Allies Try to Out Ukraine Whistleblower: A Closer Look- Late Night with Seth Meyers
Late Night with Seth Meyers
Seth, Please stop referring the crime as a “quid pro quo.” Start calling it for what it is. Extortion!
To make it clearer… The president hatched a plot to coerce a foreign power to interfere in a U.S. election.
you aren’t wrong BUT, I actually like this softball verbiage being tossed around, remember this is all happening super fast the DNC still hasn’t outlined which offenses they wish to pursue in the impeachment proceedings AND there is at least one separate criminal Investigation into Trumps campaign finances probably another now with Giuliani.
There should be ample time in the coming months to come to properly dissect and analyze all the various ‘High Crimes and Misdemeanors’ on which he will be charged.
Call it climate change
Quid Pro Quo, Bribery, Extortion…all the same thing. The Trump defenders keep saying ‘how can a phone call be a high crime or misdemeanor?’ Well, it doesn’t have to be, because the Constitution says “Treason, bribery, or high crimes and misdemeanors”. So, bribery is sufficient. “Mind your fingers. Clang. Say hi you your cell mate, Paco. He’s from Mexico.”
rpbsjy where’s the goods?? It’s been more than an hour..LOL
Oh Seth says it so so well. And it just amazes me that people do not see what is happening
Antony Stringfellow perfectly put!
Trump is a gaslighter. That’s why he says “What you’re seeing is not actually happening.”
@Jokers Wild So your telling me that if an acquaintance at your work described a serious safety hazard committed or perpetuated by the boss and this acquaintance didn’t feel like he could do anything about it or feared losing his job over it, you wouldn’t seriously contemplate contacting OSHA yourself?
I never said I could fix anything. Even my own life. And your comment is actually mean . But what I can do is hope that things will get better. And just a closing remark. As in my profession. Dealing with children. NEVER CALL SOMEONE stupid. Oh I am older and it does not matter to me what you think. But Please never ever call children stupid . And just in closing. What is wrong with hope????
.
….they are ignorant… and it would also require then to admit they were wrong… which they will never do… chump F!cked up the economy and then tried to blame Democrats…
There’s no limit to the lengths Republicans will bend over backwards to shield Trump from accountability. I’d laugh if it weren’t so horrifying and pathetic
1) they feel a need to ride his coattails 2) they hope he’s a campaign donor after office (he has bought quite a few politicians ) 3) He has something on them, they don’t want to get out. EDIT … like a picture of Graham in drag or something … that’s why Nunez is obsessed with pictures.
Very well. If they’re willing to go down with the ship, so be it.
They have to be being blackmailed: they never stood up for GWB like tis…
@Toad Jiang I don’t buy that: Trump is no Republican. He ran up the debt in a ‘booming economy’. Even Slick Willy was able to pay it down and he was/is a ‘socialist’ (according to them).
@Thebe Bashaleebee Or a combination of 2 and 3. He’s threatening to expose the ones he illegally bought if they don’t keep supporting him.
It’s funny how Trump tweeted, “Read the Transcript!” His official shirts even say it, but Republican leaders won’t read it!
@Hugh Jassman Did you hear about the various state department and White House officials who testify that aid was held up until Trump could extract a promise from the Ukrainian president to publicly announce an investigation into the Bidens?
xavierrobinson55 Now that the witnesses’ verbatim transcripts are being released, Democrats should begin wearing shirts that say, Yes, read the transcripts”!
What’s the betting those “Read the Transcript” tee shits were sold by Trump to those dead-heads at that rally. I’ll further bet that none of those wearing them have read it!
@Hugh Jassman facts don’t seem to change your mind, so will it even be important if we actually started telling them to you?
@Hugh Jassman I’m as caucasian as people come. Non-felon here. It doesn’t really matter. The merit/value of words doesn’t really change depending on who speaks them unless those words contradict their actions. For example, your words would remain nonsense no matter what ethnicity or sexual preference you would claim. The contradiction of you claiming to defend against tyranny while outright implying you’re ready to inflict violence characteristic of idiotic nationalistic zeal remains an idiotic contradiction. As for me saying I had some kind of right to your opinion? More idiotic nonsense. I made no such claim. You’re free to hold whatever unintelligent obviously incorrect harmful views you wish. You don’t have a right to be viewed as correct nor do you have some kind of right for your opinion to be considered valid as others. A person could believe gravity is a lie. Such a stupid opinion is one they have a right to hold while being obviously false, unhealthy, and nonsensical. They have no right against others calling them out for spouting bullshit. Similarly here, you have a right to hold on to your harmful delusions and believe the statistically disprovable fear mongering lies of the alt right. Pretending someone disagreeing with your idiocy on the internet is equivalent to an authoritarian usurping of your ideas remains dishonest, idiotic nonsense. But of course, that’s all you really have. Yet again, you’ve failed to produce a valid argument. I wonder what garbage you’ll try to peddle next?
When your actions are indefensible, do your best to attack the people that expose your actions.
That’s a true statement
Trump & friends/fellow inmates are good at that.
Or as a last resort, claim you’re so bad at everything else that you couldn’t possibly be a successful criminal. Which is obvious, because successful criminals don’t had over transcripts of their crimes….
That’s why he needs to know who this whistleblower is!
@Sierra Guru Then you get removed for Incompetence, since you cannot be trusted woth the Nuclear Codes or State Secrets.
It’s like a defendant, accused of robbing a bank, faced with eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage of him carrying out the robbery, demanding to know the name of the person who called the cops. Like that’s in any way relevant.
That is a marvellous analogy!
@micregil There wasn’t any smart-watches back then th@ could tell wh@ crime IT is. So without an app telling him IT was illegal, how could he had understood wh@ was going to hAPPen. Or th@ IT was technology th@ r@tled him out.
@Anthony, a little context and back story for this whole Ukraine thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj-wNuKmBrY&t
@Richard Soale Thanks, but it really is that simple!
@jacegil You want more? – “Russia should use its special forces within the borders of the United States to fuel instability and separatism, for instance, provoke “Afro-American racists”. Russia should “introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics.”
“The United Kingdom should be cut off from Europe.”
From Aleksandr Dugin’s 1997 book ‘Foundations of Geopolitics’, a book that has had a large influence within the Russian military, police, and foreign policy elites and was allegedly used as a textbook in the General Staff Academy of the Russian military.
Who is Aleksandr Dugin?
A Russian Orthodox Christian with no official government title, but highly influential, Dugin is the guy who travelled to Turkey and succeeded in restoring relations after Turkey’s downing of a Russian military jet on the Syrian border. He did the job so well that Turkey is now closer to Russia than it is to the rest of NATO.
In common with other Russian Orthodox Christians, the Muslims of Chechnya, the Muslims of Iran, and right-wing Christian groups in the US, he hates feminists, gays, “godlessness” and western liberalism in general.
The harder Donald fights a point, the harder you know he’s lying, and insecure about it. 😀
At least most people are subtle about their insecurities.
Yep. Like the Alabama/hurricane nonsense; so obsessed with “being right” that he harps on it for two weeks and eventually crudely alters a map with a Sharpie!
Kentucky, good on ya for kicking Bevin out but you gotta get Randy and Moscow Mitch out too.
Wow, one state can cause so much harm…
Your move, SC. Get Graham the hell out!
And there it is, Rand Paul showing his true colors. Always knew libertarians didn’t really care about freedom just the party.
They have always been republican-lite.
@johnbiggscr exactly
Someone needs to remind these chumps that outing a whistleblower is another crime — slow learners?
@J. Doe You know that everything the whistleblower said is in the transcript that Trump himself released right? Thank you for proving my point though, it is obvious you ignore facts so you can still claim the BS you write.
Brian Tyson
“Differentiate”
The Angriest Canadian or…hear me out…we have a process where elected officials are supposed to take care of criminals in office. Additionally, there have been MANY protests and marches since this clown went into office. Is it really a good idea to stereotype an entire nation?
Brian Tyson I appreciate your point, but also differentiate*
learn me.

“Never attempt to win by force what can be won by deception.” Niccolo Machiavelli
Anyone or any publisher who DOES print the whistleblower’s name needs to be reported to the FBI for the felony that it is to release the name of a whistleblower.
Which is why Trump and any Republicans are careful not to say a name.
It’s unfortunately not a felony. Trump can legally say the name. But the whistleblower can sue anyone in civil court who outs him.
It’s a sad state of affairs when our congressmen and senators work for the president and not the people.
Jacob Prim … someone should tell them they are the Legislative Branch and not the Executive Branch. Just like Barr is supposed to be in the Judicial Branch. All these guys need a refresher course in American Gov./ Political Science. Trump needs to take it for the first time.
Chris Spencer … subsequent reports said that it wasn’t him. Wrong person, whoops.
@Raoul Fleckman was that our hopes of having an election not an auction speeding by?
@Raoul Fleckman Exactly! They have stopped representing their citizens.. Super PAC donors have some senators taking in 2mil+ ..way more than their base salary. #EndCitizensUnited #NoDarkMoney
“…when our Congressmen work for the President”. Yeah, exactly: President Putin… But there is a correction coming.
Lindsey Graham says about the impeachment inquiry, “I’ve written the whole process off.” Ok, he’s going to be a juror in the impeachment trial. If a juror in a trial says to the judge, I’m not paying attention to any of this, I’m not reading the evidence, etc… That juror would be immediately disqualified and dismissed. So, maybe it is time for Mr. Graham to resign his senatorial seat and be part of Mr. Trump’s legal team.

Wholly agree
@Ethan Treachler Idoits? You see what I did here? I bullshit about something irrelevant as to not having to deal with the reality at hand.
@ALANAI PARHAM OK. Thanks.
It would be something that they can disqualify around 30 senators, all the ones who didn’t even show up, then only democrats would be voting, and make the 2/3rds majority easily. Ha, that won’t happen.
“Find the snitch,” is rarely the play of innocents.
@steveh46 They call us snowflakes and brain washed man, but you say Trump and they whine about it for the rest of their lives.
Sean Hannity whined about Obama’s choice of mustard. 🤷♀️
@sorellman So I guess Bolton, Mulvaney, Taylor and all the other REPUBLICANS that have come forward to CONFIRM the whistleblowers claims are also hidden democrats? Suuuure. Think the only one asleep here is you and the other MAGA’s
Second, Youtube this was posted last night. Latest I can find was a couple days ago. Source?
Third the whistlblower is a CIA operative. Saying he is a democrat as a means of discrediting his statements is a weak strawman that works both ways. Any republican that makes a negative claim about a dem can thus likewise be disregarded as bias. So ALL of the Hillary case should be disregarded since Republicans were involved, beside the fact they found not evidence of INTENT (note the caps, intent, the same thing that was lacking on the russian collusion, but that trump still performed obstruction). Typical for the right to reach for anything when they can’t fight the substance.
Fourth and finally, it is not uncommon to keep a Whistlblowers name anonymous until the initial investigation is complete, to find out if the claims have substance. The dems only stated there may not be a need to reveal the whistleblower only AFTER the evidence (you know that thing used to prove the crime) began flooding in.
@Adam B You say Bolton came forward to confirm the whistleblower’s claims. Really. So, when did Bolton testify again? As of November 8 he is still refusing to testify. I believe you’re jumping the gun here, again, and you are not very good at it.

SEN: Rand Paul, “Media, print his name, do your jobs!”
Trump: “The media is fake news. Fake news and lies!”
Me: *Facepalm!*
Amar Ubhi Fox News won’t report it either.
@S RKH just Fox mate… ‘news’ should not be used with Fox. When they pull their tongue out of Trumps orange rear end.. maybe they’ll get to some actual news lol
Amar Amar Amar Rand Paul is total trah trah and worthless. He stinks.

“Sorry, we don’t have time to defend Trump’s obvious abuse of power, we have courts to pack.” The state of the GOP in 2019
When your only defense is to go after the person who revealed your crimes, you know you are guilty as all hell.
@Matthew Sarson The 3rd part of that syllogism is ”Joseph Robinette Biden is guilty as hell”
You mean like the Democrats going after Trump for exposing Biden’s quid pro quo in the Ukraine?
@I. Burd Please like and share both. They expose media and Democrats.

well since the phone call was about investigating dem interference… makes sense.

@Lester Walker If the Dems were “Low IQ”, they would have tried to impeach Trump on all sorts of other things he’s done that wouldn’t have nearly as much impact as this Ukraine scandal.
When the debate is lost, slander becomes the weapon of the loser.
– Socrates.
@Anna Lieff-Saxby I’m not sure it is from Plato. I’ve read Plato.
@Da Q Ron Ron I haven’t read all the Dialogues: I presume, if the quote exists, it’ll be in one of those. Unlikely to be from The Republic. Edit: I didn’t mean it had to be Plato rather than somone else, but that we have no direct quotes from Socrates save for those in Plato. Unless some of the dialogue in Aristophanes’ Clouds is accurate.
(I see your philosopher and raise you a playwright).
@Anna Lieff-Saxby Thank you.

@Drake Koefoed which one?
So Trump wants the whistleblower to come forward but tells his staff not to cooperate?
