A "whistleblower" is someone who reports waste, fraud, abuse, or dangers to public health and safety to another person in a position to address it. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for investigating whistleblower reprisal claims related to all HHS grantees and sub-grantees. An employer cannot take an adverse action against employees, including firing or laying off, demoting, denying overtime or promotion, or reducing pay or hours, for engaging in activities protected by whistleblower laws. In this webcast, OIG will provide information and training around whistleblower protections, reprisal investigations, and obligations.
